It’s only been a couple of years since Langham Hospitality Group rebranded the Setai Fifth Avenue, and it has already embarked on another renovation of the luxe Midtown address, now known as Langham Place Fifth Avenue, the brand’s first location outside of Asia. (Meanwhile, Langham just opened the Langham Place, Haining in China earlier this month as well.)
The 214 guest rooms, including a whopping 57 suites, will have a refresh of finishes and furnishings, overseen by Meyer Davis Studio but it is the public spaces and a one man art show that seem to be the focus of the upgrades. .
The new look starts with the reception area, shown below.
A new lounge area will be tucked into the lobby, and a revamped, all-day bar and lounge, the Measure Lounge, will conjoin with the lobby providing a more dramatic first impression and social setting.
The spa will have its own rejuvenation and a new name–Chuan Body & Soul, the Langham’s spa brand–along with an expanded, art-filled, meeting and event space ( a new gallery is shown in the opening rendering) with all the high-tech bells and whistles. A thoroughly modern board room is shown below.
About $ 2 million was spent on the hotels art collection, featuring one American artist, Alex Katz. Brooklyn born Katz, with over 100 public collections worldwide, gives the Langham an art-savvy, New York State of mind with larger than life, pop-style faces, a signature Katz style dating to the sixties. The collection will include original works and selected reprints and will extend to the guest rooms. Hopefully we’ll get renderings of the new rooms shortly.
Note: The hotel remains open during renovations; at the time of this story, the spa is closed as well as the meeting/event facilities. The retrofits are being done in phases, with completion due by the end of the year. Rates start at $ 500 a night.
