The Most Sought After Site in Beverly Hills May Become The Number ‘One’ Hotel in Beverly Hills

Another new hotel is coming to Beverly Hills, quite possibly having the best location in the city – unless you’re the Beverly Hilton. This hotel-condo development, which may not see the light of day until 2019, is within sleepwalking distance of the Hilton and goes by the name of One Beverly Hills. We’ll get to the name later.

The hotel’s address, 9900 Wilshire Boulevard, was the former home of popular department store Robinsons-May, and no one can argue that this is a prominent gateway to Beverly Hills. Naturally, luxe hotels must follow.

There’s the upcoming Waldorf Astoria, a short stroll (aka limo ride) down the block from its sister property, and longtime BevHills resident, The Beverly Hilton, home of the Golden Globes.

LA Curbed shares that after multiple changes of ownership, China-based Wanda Group acquired the property last year and plan to scrap the retail, cut back on the condos, and add a 134-room hotel. Thankfully and wisely, they’re keeping the same architect, Richard Meier, another long time resident of the area and a modern master of natural daylight and the color white.

As to the name One Beverly Hills, this could easily be confused with 1 Hotels, a sexy, eco-friendly hotel brand who opened 1 South Beach in the spring and who is poised to open their Central Park property soon. (Latest intel says it’s happening this weekend.)

Our thoughts: Why not just make it a Conrad and rename this stretch of Wilshire Boulevard “Hilton Boulevard.”

Still, this could be good news for the Beverly Hilton. With three hotels so close together, imagine the Hollywood block party on Golden Globe night. Time to order some spare red carpet.
