Nearly 18 months after taking over one of Chicago’s most “passed around” properties, the Autograph Collection has unveiled a fresh new look for The Hotel Chicago, formerly known as the House of Blues Hotel, then the Hotel Sax.
Marriott’s Autograph Collection snapped up the hotel in early 2014, and gave it a very simple new name. Next up was the new look, which debuted earlier this summer. In the “City of Skyscrapers”, what else could the theme be for the Hotel Chicago, but some of the most iconic buildings the Windy City has to offer?
The design team, CBT, paid close attention to neighboring buildings like Marina Towers when creating check-in pods that mimicked the curves of the balconies and used reflective surfaces on the lobby ceiling to create an illusion of enormous height just as the metal and glass skyscrapers do in the inner-city.
The first Autograph Collection property for the city sees a nod to the Art Deco history with monochromatic whites, greys and blacks accented with design colors from the 1920s through the hotel. The renovation is pretty much a top-down affair that included the hotels lobby, main entrance, public spaces, restaurant, meeting rooms, 354 guest rooms and guest corridors.
Rates for the Hotel Chicago start at around $ 259 a night.
