Virgin Hotels is keeping on with its expansion plans, having just announced an upcoming hotel in Dallas, but it’s also eyeing a hotel for one of our fave cities, New Orleans.
According to Nola.com, Gatehouse Capital, a Dallas-based hotel developer, is attempting to open a Virgin Hotel at Baronne and Lafayette streets, which is currently the site of a parking lot. However, their recent proposal for a 14-story building with 183 rooms, a restaurant, rooftop garden, pool and bar was rejected by the city planning council for exceeding the height limit at 148-feet.
The Virgin developers and their architect were told to bring the building back within the city’s height limit of 125-feet but to do that would mean reducing rooms and thus, killing the “economic feasibility of the project.”
Here’s hoping they can still manage to work it out. Virgin + New Orleans could equal GREATNESS.
