Will Trump Hotels Be The Target of the Next Big Hotel Boycott?

In his bid for presidency, Donald Trump made some derogatory remarks (to say the least) about illegal immigrants in America, leading Univision and NBC Universal to drop Trump and his “Miss Universe” which he partially owns. Trump was also recently dropped by Macys department store who announced that due to his remarks they would no longer be producing or selling his clothing line.

So far, Trump has retaliated by telling Macys he never liked that they made his ties in China, and by banning Univision employees from his Trump National Doral Resort in Miami.

Now, we can’t help but wonder if Trump Hotels will be on the receiving end of a ban themselves?

As of right now, the Trump Hotels, which several of HotelChatter writers have stayed at and thoroughly enjoyed, have been kept out of the fray (aside from dealing with a credit card breach), and we seriously hope it stays that way.

While Trump’s name may be on the building, many folks who work for and at Trump Hotels don’t share his views. (As evidenced by Trump New York’s gay pride post on Facebook; The Donald is a staunch marriage “traditionalist”.)

Another reason to pause before banning Trump hotels? As we saw with the Dorchester Hotel Collection boycott, banning a group of hotels for the actions of one owner (i.e. the Sultan of Brunei and his homophobic laws), doesn’t hurt the owner much, but rather heavily impacts the employees working at the hotels.

So Mr. Trump, if you’re not willing to back down from your racist comments, then for the sake of your hotels and their employees, take another tack when talking about illegal immigrants.

To see what Trump is saying today, check in with his no-holds-barred Twitter feed where he is still going off. *Rolls eyes.*
